AN MP has written to Yorkshire Bank's chief executive to oppose the closure of its Yeadon branch.
Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland is asking the bank to reconsider its plans, which he says will particularly hit elderly customers.
Yorkshire Bank had written to customers in Yeadon telling them the branch will be closed, meaning the nearest alternative branch will be in Otley.
Mr Mulholland has written to Yorkshire Bank's chief executive, David Duffy, raising concerns about the closure of the branch and the impact it will have on customers.
He said: "I was very concerned to hear of Yorkshire Bank's plans to close its Yeadon branch, and immediately wrote to the chief executive about this matter.
"I am increasingly concerned about such moves, which assume that all the bank’s customers will be able to use online banking, or simply go to a different branch. The Yeadon branch was frequented by a number of elderly residents, for whom such alternatives are not viable. Many residents have already contacted me with such concerns, with some suggesting they will look to switch banks.
"I would therefore ask that Yorkshire Bank seriously reconsiders this move, taking into account the needs of local residents, and I would urge it to keep this valuable local resource open."
