Ilkeston Town 2 Guiseley 0
GUISELEY went out of the FA Trophy at Ilkeston on Saturday after conceding an unfortunate own goal and a penalty. Terry Dolan's men had lunched with the West Brom squad in their Derbyshire hotel before moving on to what was the manager's first cup tie with Guiseley.
In a hard-fought game he saw his side go behind when Sam Denton netted an own goal, the unfortunate defender deflecting in a teasing Dougie Wade cross in the 27th minute.
Guiseley looked dangerous in the first-half but found Jamie Annerson in top form.
Ilkeston played better in the second-half but appeared a shade lucky when they were awarded a penalty when former West Riding County FA player Adam Muller appeared to be felled just outside the box. Robert Gill stepped up to convert the penalty a feat Guiseley were unable to emulate when they were awarded a penalty when Alistair Asher handled the ball. Gavin Knight's spot kick was excellently saved by Annerson.
Former Guiseley centre-back Matt Daly, a recent signing from Ossett Town, had a good game for Ilkeston.
Dolan's men face another cup challenge on Tuesday night when they host local rivals Bradford Park Avenue in the UniBond League Cup. The Avenue side, managed by former Guiseley assistants Phil Sharpe and Clive Freeman, is packed with former Guiseley players.
Their squad includes former Nethermoor men Steve Ball, Neil Grayston, Richard Chattoe, Gary Shaw, Andy Shuttleworth, Liam Flynn, Chris Clarke, David Cooke, Simon Parke and Ryan Senior while Jez Illingworth and James Nettleton signed for Avenue earlier in the season but have since left.
