This captivating view from the Victorian era was taken in the late 1890's by E.E.Slater of Hopeville House in Yeadon.

Originally taken onto a glass slide it has been digitally transferred for publication onto Aireborough Historical Society’s website. The latest annual figures for the website show 445,000 page hits in 12 months from all over the world.

Society archivist Carlo Harrison said: “This picture is taken looking up the Coach Road towards Guiseley, the remains of the buildings are in the undergrowth and can just be seen.

“The gate post is still there but the wall has almost gone, and the water (the spring) is in the bottom behind the wall, it is a very steep slope.

“The elegance of the ladies who are out to take their daily exercise is striking with a well dressed gentleman complete with hat and cane no doubt accompanying them as it would not be quite correct for ladies to walk unescorted.”
