Deliciouslyorkshire has drawn up the much-anticipated list of product finalists in its 2013 Deliciouslyorkshire Awards – with everything from goat’s milk ice-cream, Yorkshire green garlic and edible flowers on the shortlist.
The crack team of eight judges – which includes head judge and BBC radio and television food and drink presenter Nigel Barden, food critics from newspapers including The Press in York and chefs Neil Nugent and Matthew Benson Smith – made it their mission to find the crème de la crème of Yorkshire products, and have now whittled it down to 47 top contenders.
“It’s been an amazingly nourishing few weeks, taste-testing all the fantastic produce and hospitality this county has to offer,” says Nigel Barden. “As usual, it’s been incredibly tough narrowing it down to just four contenders in each category, but we feel these producers genuinely represent all that’s great and gourmet about Yorkshire and deserve their place in the final – congratulations to everyone who’s got this far!”
Mystery dining for the best business categories – which include Best Yorkshire Breakfast, Best Yorkshire Afternoon Tea, Best Use of Local Produce on a Hotel or Restaurant Menu, Best Independent Retailer and Best Wholesaler/Distributor – are still ongoing and the shortlist will be announced later in the month.
Winners of the best product and best business categories will be announced at the glitzy black tie awards ceremony on Wednesday September 25 at York’s National Railway Museum, where guests will be treated to a delicious dinner made with Yorkshire’s finest local produce.
