Bingley Little Theatre opens its autumn season with a poignant comedy called The Cemetery Club.
Set in Forest Hill, Queens, New York, the play is described as “Steel Magnolias meets the Golden Girls”.
Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet-tempered and ready to begin a new life. Lucille is feisty and just wants to have fun.
And Doris is priggish and judgemental, especially when Sam the butcher makes his presence felt, coming across the widows while visiting his wife’s grave.
Laughs, revelations and tears are promised in this bittersweet comedy, running at Bingley Arts Centre from September 16 to 21. For tickets, ring (01274) 567983.
Other productions coming up in Bingley Little Theatre’s new season include murder mystery Cat’s Cradle, fast-paced thriller The 39 Steps, light comedy Canvas, Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party and a stage adaptation of comedy classic Fawlty Towers.
