A double bill of live music will help Otley Courthouse celebrate its tenth anniversary next month.
The New Rope String Band and Bayou Gumbo will both take the stage on Saturday, May 3.
Performing in the first, seated half of the show – from 7.30pm to 9.30pm – the three “maniac minstrels” of the New Rope String Band play evocative acoustic music that draws from various world traditions but also incorporates slapstick, vaudeville and circus fun.
Bayou Gumbo will follow on, after an interval to clear the floor for dancing, for the 10pm to 11pm slot.
The band, whose toe-tapping music mixes everything from traditional African to R&B, Country and Cajun, have re-formed as a one-off especially for the evening.
Otley Courthouse centre manager Chloe Perry said: “This is a band that fills the dance floor.
“They played at the opening of Otley Courthouse and they’ve re-formed for a one-off – thank you Bayou Gumbo.
“This double bill is sure to sell out so we would advise people to please book quickly.”
Additional Courthouse anniversary celebrations will include an open day on Monday, May 5, where a variety of taster workshops will be available, along with information from clubs and societies. An exhibit of work by the Courthouse volunteers will also be launched on the same day, followed by an evening performance.
The venue also has plenty of attractions lined up further into the year, with the likes of Stuart Maconie, The Weave, The Paperboys and young Irish band Caladh Nua all performing in June.
