Singing-songwriting duo Issimo are holding a special concert next week when a full backing band will be accompanying them.

Issimo and their band will be appearing at the 360 Club at The library in Leeds Saturday May 10, along with Ronny and The Ferns and Echo Town.

Issimo are made up of Bradford actress/singer Abi Uttley and Yeadon singer songwriter Marc Otway and occasionally for big events they have a backing band of jazz musicians.

They were spotted at The Bedford in Balham (performing acoustically) by an organiser from Festival Republic and were offered a slot at Latitude Festival where they received an overwhelming response from festival goers. Issimo have since gone onto play Beat-Hearder festival and Bingley Music Live last year. Since then they have been in the studio working on their debut EP with producer Roni Szpakowski which is set to be released this summer. Issimo have been supported by the BBC Introducing project which aims to help unsigned musicians. Presenter Alan Raw has declared himself a “big fan” of Issimo.

Their tracks Pretty Simple, Like You Do and Things About You have been played on the BBC’s Mark Forrest Show. This year is turning out to be a successful one for the duo, having supported The Dunwells on their recent Light Up The Skies tour and performed in London at Live at The Leaders – an event attended by MPs supporting live music.

They have also been booked for a few festivals this year including The London Folk Festival, Cornbury Festival and will be performing an acoustic set at local Oakwell Music Festival.

The May 10 gig will see the band play various styles of music, including reggae, ska, jazz, salsa, folk, rock and funk. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £5 advance or £6 on the door. For details go to issimomusic.net.
