The acts have been revealed for a jazz day on The Grove which could pave the way for future jazz festivals in the town.
A studio theatre will be set up on The Grove for three days in August, providing a venue for Ilkley Summer Festival entertainment, and the jazz day will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25.
The Ben Lowman Django Project, specialising in playing gipsy jazz with a unique twist, will perform in the afternoon slot.
The seven-piece New York Brass Band – New Orleans-inspired music from the mean streets of York – will play the evening slot.
The band takes its inspiration from contemporary New Orleans musicians, but have a repertoire that ranges from Marvin Gaye to George Michael, Cee-Lo Green to Stevie Wonder, with some funky, gritty Northern originals thrown in for good measure.
Jazz singer Beverley Beirne’s latest project, The Stripey Animals, will also play the evening slot.
They play tunes from a mixture of genres that they interpret into the jazz idiom and originals.
Festival director Councillor Anne Hawkesworth said: “We are promoting the Jazz Day as a pilot project for any future jazz festivals to be staged in Ilkley.”
