AN invitation to take part in a drama based on the Life of Christ in one of the district’s most spectacular settings is being offered.
Organisers of the Bolton Abbey Mystery Play, which takes place in July, are asking for locals to help tell the story at Bolton Priory and the ancient ruins.
There are many speaking and non-speaking parts, and people are also needed to participate in crowd scenes and help out backstage.
The play, at 2pm on July 4 and 5, is being put on by the Bolton Abbey Players and producer Jo Craven said that it was a great opportunity to join in with a rare event.
She said: “It is some years since there has been anything like this at Bolton Abbey and it could not have a better and more atmospheric setting. We’d love as many people as possible to get involved.”
It will start in the Priory Church and move through the ruins down to the River Wharfe and back.
And it will feature around 12 ‘tableaux’ of episodes from the life of Jesus, including the Wedding at Cana and the entrance to Jerusalem, which will be among those crowd scenes.
Rehearsals start as soon as possible after Easter Sunday, April 5.
