ANOTHER night of top online comedy will be delivered this month - thanks in part to Otley Courthouse.
The arts centre is one of ten venues across the region that are supporting Your Place Comedy: a series of free shows featuring comedians delivering live sets from their own homes.
The project was created by the participating venues as a way of enabling them to continue presenting popular performers while their normal way of operating remains compromised due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Sunday, September 27 the fifth show in the series will see BBC TV and radio regular Justin Moorhouse, of Phoenix Nights fame, and I’m A Celebrity… contestant and prime time panel show guest, Shappi Khorsandi, take the spotlight.
Justin has appeared on Live At The Apollo and is a familiar voice on talkSPORT and BBC 5Live’s Fighting Talk. He is also a Celebrity Mastermind winner, frequent Radio 4 News Quiz panellist and played ‘Young Kenny’ in both series of Peter Kay’s acclaimed Phoenix Nights.
Shappi has been a guest on Have I Got News For You, Mock The Week, QI and 8 Out Of 10 Cats, as well as Radio 4’s Loose Ends, Just A Minute, The Now Show and many more.
She is an acclaimed author and has also appeared on BBC1 Question Time.
Their Your Place Comedy show will be compered by writer and star of Radio 4’s The Gambler, presenter of CBBC’s Super Human Challenge and Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nominee Tim FitzHigham.
The performances will be free to watch on YouTube and Twitch with an option for viewers to donate if they have enjoyed the broadcast.
All money raised will be distributed equally among the 10 supporting venues, who have been starved of income since mid-March.
The venues have also all pledged funds to both support the performers involved and provide their audiences with live entertainment from some of the most highly rated comedians in the UK.
Manager of Selby Town Hall, Chris Jones, said: “Justin and Shappi are two of the most consistently funny and highly respected live acts on the circuit today, with nearly 50 years performance experience between them.
“They are perfect guests for the show format which really provides a rather different comedy experience from that of a raucous, sold out theatre gig.”
