A Yeadon primary school has secured funding for 105 extra places.
Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland has welcomed the announcement that Rufford Park Primary has been deemed good enough by Ofsted to benefit from a scheme set up by the Coalition Government’s Liberal Democrats.
The Targeted Basic Need programme means there will now be 1,250 new places across seven schools in Leeds. Nationally, it will be providing £820 million to fund an extra 74,000 places in areas of need at new schools and at existing schools judged as good or outstanding by Ofsted.
The money is in addition to the £1.6 billion already allocated from central government to local authorities to spend in most needy schools and brings the total amount invested by the Coalition Government in new school places to more than £5bn.
Liberal Democrat Schools Minister David Laws said: “I’m delighted to announce that Leeds is getting a share of our funding to provide much-needed brand new school places.”
Mr Mulholland added: “I am delighted that a school in my constituency is to receive funding from the Targeted Basic Need programme.
“Rufford Park is an exceptional school and a brilliant example of high-quality education in an environment where children feel safe and happy.
“I would like to congratulate the staff at Rufford Park for all their hard work. This is exactly the kind of school we should be investing in to ensure all children get the best start in life.”
