This year’s annual show of the Burley Gardeners’ Association will take place on Sunday, August 25 at the Queen’s Hall, Main Street, Burley-in-Wharfedale.

Residents of Burley-in-Wharfedale or Burley Woodhead may enter all classes and anyone can enter the open and junior classes.

The subjects for the photography classes are Burley in Close-Up, Primary Colours and, for the Juniors, Pets.

There are six new classes for 2013 including one in the Fruit and Vegetable section called “A Disaster”.

Also new for 2013 is a surprise gift for everyone entering something in the junior classes. Entries can be brought along to the Queen’s Hall between 10am and noon on the day of the show. Full details can be found in the show schedule and regulations.

The show is open to the public from 2.15pm to 4.45pm. Entrance is £1 for adults, 10p for under-16s and free for members of Burley Gardeners’ Association.

Local historian Dennis Warwick will be presenting the trophies and prizes to the show winners at 4pm. In addition, the shop, small business or pub chosen as the winner of this year’s Burley in Bloom competition will be presented with the Dick Hargrave Shield.

As well as the exhibits there will be displays by Burley Art Group, floral artist Sheila Quin, Courtyard Planters of Otley, Fancy That from Wharfedale Fine Foods, Strulch Organic Gardening and Workaid Recycled Tools.

Home-made afternoon teas will be served throughout the show. The show will conclude with an auction of exhibits.
