Horsforth MP Stuart Andrew has has met the family of a resident from Manorfield House care home, which is being threatened with closure by Leeds City Council.

Residents of Manorfield House in Horsforth and Musgrave Court in Pudsey are facing an uncertain future as they await the outcome of the council’s announcement on September 4 as to what nursing and residential homes in Leeds are to close.

Mr Andrew said: “The families and residents of Manorfield House and Musgrave Court are extremely anxious at the prospect of losing their homes and this is a very distressing time for them all.

“When assessing what homes are to be shut down the council are using methodology based on a projection of what the population will be in the year 2020 and yes, of course, future generations need to be cared for sufficiently, but people also need to be cared for now and it would be simply wrong to close Manorfield House and Musgrave Court when, as a result, people may not receive the appropriate care for their assessed needs and furthermore may become victims to isolation and loneliness.”

Julia Chapman, niece of a Manorfield House resident, added: “Leeds City Council will be judged by how it cares for the elderly and vulnerable residents of Manorfield House residential home.

“We have had fantastic support from the Horsforth councillors and MP Stuart Andrew in our fight to save Manorfield House. They all agree that this is a resource that the people of Horsforth cannot afford to lose.”
