The fifth Burley Summer Festival opened on Friday with a ceilidh and its busy diary runs until Saturday across the village.

A scarecrow trail, treasure hunt, open allotments, music and steam rally meant visitors had plenty to do on Saturday.

On Sunday the cricket ground hosted Burley Classic Car Show with around 250 entries and a food and drink market was held in the Red Lion car park, Main Street.

Music lovers were invited to enjoy afternoon tea as Silsden Town Band played in Grange Park and later young people enjoyed music and mocktails at St Mary’s Parish Centre.

Wharfedale Conservative councillor Jackie Whiteley who lives in the village said: “I’ve noticed the wonderful scarecrows dotted around. There’s some excellent ones, particularly on Sandholme Drive and Menston Old Lane. The attention to detail is amazing.

“People here have really worked hard. There’s lots going on and on the main street, all the buildings have bunting decorating them.”

Events this week have included cup cake decorating, a teddy bears’ picnic, local history walks, meditation, music, dance, a pamper evening and angling.
