Pupils from Otley have been taking in the sights of continental Europe during their half-term break.
Groups of language students from Prince Henry’s Grammar School enjoyed study trips to the Spanish capital, Madrid, and Aachen in Germany.
The A-level Spanish students visited the Colegio Nuestra Senora de las Maravillas in Madrid, went on cultural tours of the city and spent time studying with Spanish students in their school. The highlights of their week included trips to the Spanish national art museum – the Prado, Las Ventras bullring and Toledo.
German students from years ten to year 13, meanwhile, were on an exchange trip to Aachen and while there, as well as joining in with lessons in school, went on trips to Cologne and Bonn and ventured across the border to Brussels.
Faculty leader in Modern Foreign Languages at Prince Henry’s, Jo Barber, said: “These trips are part of our comprehensive programme of language study trips which students of all ages undertake.
“All our students study at least one language to GCSE level, with many studying two and choosing to take languages at A-level and, often, going on to degree level. Study trips are an important part of this learning, as they bring both the culture and the language of the countries alive. This year, our students are travelling to Spain, France, Germany and China on trips which are directly related to the languages they are learning.”
