A 20mph limit is being introduced on an estate near a Yeadon primary school.
The new zone is being brought into effect on the Coppice Wood estate following safety concerns from residents.
The area, which is close to Queensway Primary School, currently has a 30mph limit.
Guiseley and Rawdon councillors have secured £2,100 to fund the 20mph zone on the estate.
They say speed limits in the area had been a concern to local residents for some time because of the number of young children travelling to school.
They hope the new zone will encourage more children to walk to school.
Councillor Pat Latty said: “This scheme is a result of collaboration between local residents, councillors and the highways and transportation group and will hopefully have a really positive impact on road safety within the estate.”
Councillor Graham Latty added: “The proximity of this road to a primary school has become a cause for concern among local residents, and the introduction of a 20mph zone will reduce the potential for accidents in the area and hopefully will encourage more people to walk their children to school.” Councillor Paul Wadsworth said: “This road can get very busy on the school run and this has led residents to become concerned about their safety. The new speed limit will be a real boost to the estate and will hopefully lead to an increase in walking and cycling, which are especially important in giving young people exercise.”
