The second Otley Word Feast has been declared a great success.
This year’s three-day community celebration of the written and spoken word began with a Grand Opening Feast at Korks Wine Bar.
The evening featured entertainment from local performers and poets and Town Mayor Councillor Pam Gill (Lab, Manor) presented prizes to the winners of the Feast's Market-themed writing competition – Louise Holmes and Pam Scobie.
The next day saw seven creative writing workshops, talks, children's storytelling sessions and other literary events, including an Open Mic contest, held at venues across town.
Then on Sunday, March 30, the 2014 Feast concluded with a Walk with Words, a Gruffalo story time, and the launch of Spokes – a poetry anthology commissioned by Otley Word Feast Press to celebrate the Tour de France.
Otley Word Feast organisers Jane Kitsen, Sandra Burnett and Wanda Phillips said they were delighted with the support all the different activities had received. They said: ‘‘We would like to thank everyone involved.
‘‘The Feast was made possible by the support of Otley Library, Otley Courthouse, local organisations and businesses, and the sponsorship of Otley Town Council, Leeds Council, Leeds Inspired and The Co-operative Community Fund.’ The children’s winners of the Market competition were presented with their prizes in front of family and friends at Otley Library.
The school years 3 to 7 winners were Pierce Charlesworth, Beatrice Firth, Isaac Lao, Maisy Orr, while the Year 6 joint winners were Harry McLoughlin and John Roberts.
