An open day at Otley Rugby Club has been hailed a “superb” success.
The club hosted a range of attractions, including youth squad matches, live music from Otley band Never Ending Reason, army displays and a barbecue on Saturday, March 29.
Visitors also got to watch a first XV game, against Luctonians, for free – with Otley suffering a narrow, 17-19 defeat in the end.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) was among the many residents who took part and also presented the Man of the Match award.
He said: “The open day was a big success, with fun for all the family as well as great sport and I was very pleased to attend as I am a keen rugby fan.
“There was something for all the family and a great turnout and atmosphere all day. It was enjoyed by everyone, though naturally all Otley fans were disappointed with the narrow defeat against Luctonians.
“The whole day showed what a great community club Otley is and how important they are to the town.
“I hope they can get some good results in the remaining few games of the season and continue to do great work with people of all ages, getting them involved in sport.”
