Policing in North West Leeds has been given a helping hand with funding towards off road bikes.

Members of Leeds City Council’s North West Outer Area Committee agreed funding of £1,135 towards the cost of continuing to provide off road bikes in the area.

Police use the bikes to crack down on illegal off road motor cycling, anti-social behaviour and to assist with high visibility patrols.

The funding was welcomed by Conservative councillors in the area.

Guiseley and Rawdon councillor Pat Latty said: “Making sure that the police have an off road capability is something I am delighted to support.

“The green spaces we enjoy in this part of Leeds can also attract illegal cycling and anti-social behaviour, so I am delighted to support the police in this way.”

Adel and Wharfedale councillor Clive Fox added: “Since the off road bike patrols were introduced they have helped to reduce illegal off road motorcycling in North West Leeds, but there are still plenty of people who insist on riding illegally and causing a nuisance, so I am pleased we can fund these patrols.”

Horsforth councillor Dawn Collins said: “It is important that regular patrols are maintained by these off road bikes to deter people from carrying out anti-social behaviour in North West Leeds. I am pleased to contribute to ensuring the police retain these patrols.”
