The death of a man in a Yeadon telephone kiosk is not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

The body of a 30-year-old Yeadon man was found in the kiosk on High Street just after 5.30 on Sunday morning.

At first police described the death as "unexplained" but they said the initial assessment led them to believe that no-one else was involved. They are not commenting on reports that the man was found hanging by the telephone cord.

A police spokesman said a forensic post mortem had been conducted and it had been confirmed that his death was not believed to be suspicious.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death but they have asked for information from anyone who was in the area at the time.

Yeadon's High Street near the Morrisons superstore was cordoned off for much of Sunday after the grim discovery, and a tent was put up to protect the scene as police forensic teams gathered evidence.

Police, who were called to the scene by a shocked taxi driver, asked the public to keep away from the area to avoid traffic disruption.

  • An inquest was due to be opened today on 30-year-old Brahnie Scott, of Hawthorn Avenue, Yeadon, who was found dead on Sunday.
