Ilkley Carnival committee has announced the line-up for this year’s May Day Bank holiday Monday event with daredevil cycling act Zero Gravity headlining on the East Holmes carnival field.
The Yorkshire Tour-themed carnival has booked one of the world’s leading freestyle trial riders and Top Gear Live Tour stunt man, Chris Doney, to deliver a death-defying stunt show in the carnival’s Stray FM arena on Monday May 5.
With the parade expected to showcase creative costumes and floats from more than 1,200 schoolchildren, charities and local organisations, the carnival committee is hoping crowds will top previous years and funds collected for local groups will be even higher than the £12,000 raised in 2013.
Ilkley Carnival is an entirely volunteer-run event which invests profits made back into the community.
Ten local organisations benefited from last year’s event and this year, half of all profits raised will go to LS29 Special Needs Support Group with the remainder shared between other local groups.
Ilkley Carnival committee chairman Andrew Stacey said: “We have been bowled over by how much support we are getting for the carnival this year – it just keeps getting bigger, better and more popular.
