Councillors have welcomed plans to improve a number of roads in Wharfedale.
Leeds City Council has confirmed in its programme for 2014-15 that repair and upgrading work will be carried out on routes including Arthington Lane at Pool-in-Wharfedale and the A660 Otley Road, near Golden Acre Park.
Smaller roads like Creskeld Drive and Creskeld Lane, in Bramhope, are also in line for improvements.
Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) is glad the work is going ahead but remains concerned about a multi-million pound backlog in local road maintenance.
He said: “The state of many roads in the ward and in Leeds has been a concern to me for some considerable time and the administration has not done enough to keep the roads up to standard.
“At least this investment in roads in my ward will go some way towards addressing a number of local concerns.
“My postbag is full of complaints about the state of the roads and I remain concerned that Leeds City Council continues to carry a backlog of some £102 million in maintenance.
“While the Government has announced new funding, it remains to be seen if the council can also step up its efforts and address this backlog.”
Councillor Les Carter (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) added: “This investment will at least make journeys safer for local residents and I am pleased that roads that are clearly in need of improvement are set to benefit.”
