A popular walking route from Otley to Middleham is now officially ‘on the map’.
The 38-mile Six Dales Trail, designed by a steering committee from Walkers are Welcome (Otley), was opened by celebrity rambler Janet Street-Porter in 2010.
Now, in a sign that the trail is regarded as sustainable and supported by the local authorities in West and North Yorkshire, it has been marked on the new editions of the Ordnance Survey’s OS Explorer and Landranger maps.
Walkers are Welcome (Otley) steering committee member John Sparshatt, who wrote the Six Dales Trail’s full-colour guide book, said: “The green diamond marking on the 1:25,000 Explorer mapping by the OS puts Otley at the heart of walking and justifies it status as a Walkers are Welcome town.”
The guide book is available at local shops and online at sixdalestrail.org.uk.
