Freemasons from Olicana Lodge, Ilkley, have donated £250 to the 3rd Ben Rhydding Scout group to help pay for a replacement for the marquee which was blown away and damaged beyond repair in last year’s storms.
David LeGrove, of Olicana Lodge, presented the cheque to Dougie Lawson, the Scout Group Leader, at their headquarters on Beanlands Parade, Ilkley, where he was given a tour of the site and met with Cubs and Scouts from the group. Local Freemasons had already helped replace camp cooking equipment last year, so Mr LeGrove received a particularly warm welcome.
Mr LeGrove said: “We are always happy to help local causes where we can. Mr Lawson and the other leaders are doing a great job. It’s a pleasure to support them.”
The £250 donation was added to money the Scouts had raised already themselves.
Mr Lawson said: “We are very grateful to the Masons for their support. The marquee was a major item to replace which we couldn’t fund ourselves, but it will make a massive difference to the group to have this facility available to us once again.”
