Menston runner Debbie Bland who was recently featured in this newspaper has broken through her £1,000 target to raise funds for Wakefield Hospice.
Debbie, who runs for Baildon Runners, was completing her 11th London Marathon and was raising funds for the hospice who were caring for her terminally ill brother Chris Haw.
Sadly, Chris died just three weeks before the marathon and Debbie dedicated her run to his memory.
Debbie said: “Running in memory of Chris was very emotional, but knowing that I was raising money for the hospice that cared for him in the last weeks of his life spurred me on.
“I would like to thank the Gazette and Observer and all my friends and neighbours for their fantastic support.”
She completed the marathon in 4 hours 9 minutes and has raised just over £1,200 to date. You can still donate on Debbie’s fund raising page at virginmoneygiving.com/Debbierunner.
