A Yeadon teenager raped a woman while on bail for the attempted rape of another girl.
Steven Whitaker, now 19, of Wells Court, Yeadon, admitted the attempted rape on May 6 and the rape on September 14 last year.
He has been sent to a young offender institution for 11 years, with four years’ extended licence.
Passing sentence at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said they were frightening offences and Whitaker clearly posed a danger to lone women.
The second offence involved targeting a woman who was vulnerable in drink, he said.
“It is perfectly clear neither of these ladies will ever forget what you did to them. They may never recover from the ordeal.”
Chris Smith, prosecuting, said Whitaker tried to rape the first victim, aged 18, in the early hours after they got talking in a pub in Yeadon on the evening of May 5.
He had drunk seven pints and 15 shots during the evening.
He was later arrested and bailed while forensic tests were done, and on September 13 got chatting to a 28-year-old woman in a Knaresborough pub.
Accepting she was “quite drunk”, she said the next thing she knew he was kissing her behind a shop in Knaresborough High Street.
There was consensual intimacy but he ignored her when she said she did not want things to go further and raped her.
He walked away, leaving her visibly distressed and shouting repeatedly she had been raped.
Police were with her when Whitaker approached, asking what was going on when she identified him.
He later told police it was the woman who had wanted sex and when he said no and walked off she had started screaming.
Richard Reed, for Whitaker, said he was only 18 at the time and immature. He was also affected by drink and had expressed remorse.
