A busy week of music, poetry, movies and exhibits will begin at Otley Courthouse this Sunday.

Threedom Wind Trio, comprising David Baker on bassoon, clarinetist John Mellor and Liz Kenwood-Herriott on oboe, will get the ball rolling when they take the stage at 7.30pm on May 4.

The trio, whose members have performed with Opera North, Northern Ballet and orchestras across the north of England, perform a mixture of well-known favourites alongside the French wind trio classics.

Then on Monday, May 5, the Courthouse’s 10am to 4pm open day will see guests invited to try ‘taster’ sessions in art, writing, music and drama, and pick up information from stalls being run by the many clubs and societies who meet there.

The venue’s volunteers will also be launching an exhibit of their own art work on the day, followed by an invitation-only evening performance.

Award-winning movie Philomena, a moving story about a woman’s search for the son who was taken from her while still a baby, will be shown at 2pm on Thursday, May 8. Starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, the film is the first in a new series of matinees and admission is £4.

The week will be rounded off on Friday, May 9, when the ‘Bard of Barnsley’, Ian McMillan, teams up with acclaimed composer and musician Luke Carver Goss for an evening of poetry, music and improvised comedy.

The show begins at 7.30pm and costs £12.50 or £10.50 in advance or £13.50 or £11.50 on the door.
