Two bands from the same Otley school are celebrating reaching the finals of a fundraising regional talent competition.
Random Behaviour and Demoralised, from Prince Henry’s Grammar School, both shone in the Centre Stage battle of the bands contest.
It is the first time that two acts from the same school have made it through to the last stage of the event, which raises money for Martin House Children’s Hospital.
A third Otley band with a Prince Henry’s connection, The Puppeteers – featuring ex-pupils Marcus Chavasse and Tom Sloman and Year 13 student Eleanor Clowes – have also made the final after entering independently.
Area leader in English Chris Smith organised the Prince Henry’s Battle of the Bands, which raised £1,000 for Martin House.
He said: "This is a brilliant result for the bands at school. They are all really different and we are keeping our fingers crossed for the final!”
Demoralised’s members are all Year 11 students – Harris Tariq, Anirudh Ajaykumar, Tyrone Josefowicz, and James Hinchliffe – while Random Behaviour feature two Year 11 pupils, Jake Flood and Matthew Betts, Max Lunn from Year 12, and Year 9 pupil Caleb Flood.
The three Otley bands will now join the other finalists to play in front of more than 1,000 people at the the O2 Academy, in Leeds, on Wednesday, July 23.
The prize for the overall winner could be a launchpad for a full career in the music industry, and includes playing spots at Reading and Leeds Festivals and having a professional music video produced by Sodium.
