Otley’s MP joined local pupils to celebrate the start of Walk to School Week 2014.
Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) teamed up with a group of children and parents for a walk to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School to mark the occasion on Monday, May 19.
The Living Streets event aims to encourage more parents to walk, rather than drive, for the ‘school run’ and so improve fitness and save money while spending quality time with their children.
Mr Mulholland said: "Walking to and from school is a great way to spend some quality time with your children and encourages healthy lifestyles.
"When I’m not in Westminster, I try to walk my children to school as often as I can and enjoy spending this extra time with them.
"Walking is so important, and it was great to get together with other parents and children and walk to school as a large group.
"The weather was fantastic and the children really enjoyed playing together as we all walked along."
Living Streets' chief executive, Tony Armstrong, added: "This May, we're urging families up and down the country to give walking a go during Walk to School Week and we welcome the support shown to our cause by Greg Mulholland.
"We think you’ll be amazed at what a difference a short blast of fresh air can do for you. It’s free, green and easy and above all it works."
