For the last three year’s Otley’s chamber choir, the Chippendale Singers, have given a summer concert in aid of a local charity.
This year the choir have chosen to support The Yorkshire Cancer Centre which is the fundraising arm of St James’s Institute of Oncology and provides specialist medical equipment, research and development and patient ‘home comforts’ to 2,000 patients each day.
This is very special concert given in memory of four members and former members of the choir who have died during the past 12 months and so the concert programme will be made up of the choir’s favourite songs including certain pieces in memory of those who have died. This will not be a sad occasion at all, but a celebration of the sheer pleasure of singing.
At the end of the concert there will be a short section of songs to commemorate the beginning of the First World War, hopefully with some audience participation.
The concert will take place at St Mary’s Church in Burley-in Wharfedale on Saturday, June 7 at 7.30pm. Tickets will cost £10 (£8 for concessions) and children aged 16 and under will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult.
Tickets are available at the door, from Jan Wilkinson (01943) 467204 and bookings@chippendalesingers.co.uk.
