A team of fundraisers took part in a 15,000ft skydive to raise thousands of pounds for a children’s charity.
Eleven people jumped from a plane to raise almost £3,000 in support of 14-year-old Bethany Hare’s May’ke a Million in May campaign.
Volunteers taking part in the event at Hibaldstow, north Lincolnshire, included Bethany’s sister Emily, 16, and dad Simon, 48. Her mum Yvonne said: “All but one of the divers were first timers, so nerves were high as they sat waiting for their turn, watching other people falling from the sky before them. Every time a plane shot overhead you could almost hear the stomachs turning.”
Bethany, from Horsforth has previously organised fundraising fashion shows – and two models from the events, Francesca Brooke Fenton and Jes Fox Coates, were among the skydivers, along with make up artist, Nikkie Smith. Also taking part were Aine Moore, Cat Steeples Samantha Hoyle, Darren Wood, Michael Robinson and Tracy Wale.
Yvonne said: “The unanimous decision was that everyone wanted to get right back up there and do it all over again.”
The day was so successful that the charity, Bethany’s Smile, is now organising more dives for the end of August, and people are asked to e-mail bethanyssmile@virginmedia.com if they want to take part.
May’ke A Million is a fundraising campaign where everyone in Yorkshire is invited to raise money to build Smile Cottage – a holiday respite home for Yorkshire families who are faced with the news that their child has a chronic, life threatening or terminal illness.
The campaign culminated on Saturday in Millennium Square, Leeds, with an event called A Celebration of Yorkshire.
