OTLEY town centre is set to endure more traffic disruption from next weekend.
The town has suffered from increased congestion and rat-running ever since an unpopular one-way system was introduced on Charles Street, Walkergate and Nelson Street last October. Those problems look likely to be exacerbated by a two-weekend resurfacing scheme that will start on the Kirkgate to Charles Street section of Bondgate on Saturday, March 14.
But Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said: “I have asked if we can have a later start on Saturday, because of the market, and if we can stagger the work.”
A notification letter being sent to residents by Leeds City Council’s highways department says: “Pedestrian access will be available at all times and every effort will be made to maintain access to your property, throughout the working period.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience.”
