A COUPLE whose son was murdered in an unprovoked attack will share their experience at Leeds Trinity University in Horsforth tonight.
Margaret and Barry Mizen were left bereft when 16-year-old Jimmy was killed in London in 2008.
In their talk, Darkness into Light, they will share their experience of how to get beyond severe tragedy, trauma and loss through Christian prayer and faith. The couple, who set up the Jimmy Mizen Foundation in memory of their son, will reach out to those in Leeds who have been affected by similar tragedies, while explaining the benefits of promoting peace and solidarity. Bernadette Broderick from Leeds Trinity University’s Chaplaincy, who organised the event, said: “The Mizen family work tirelessly with children and schools to help young people, by giving them opportunities to get off the streets and form more beneficial relationships.
“Everyone is welcome at the event on Thursday; it will be a great chance for people to understand the heart-rending effects of violence on families and communities and will demonstrate the ways to cope with the long term impact it has.”
It takes place at 7pm. Visit event brite.co.uk/e/darkness-into-light- tickets-13123521807 to register.
