PRESIDENT Dawn Emsley, of the Rotary Club of Ilkley, recently presented a cheque for £1,500 on behalf of members to Helen Picken, manager of Keighley Women’s Aid.
Keighley Women’s Aid is one of Dawn’s two chosen charities for her year in office.
Her other chosen charity is Ward 5, the Stroke Unit at Airedale Hospital near Steeton, where additional equipment is necessary to help aid rehabilitation following a stroke.
The overwhelming success of the Rotary Holly Ball that was held last December made the presentation possible.
Keighley Women’s Aid is an emergency refuge for women and children who are fleeing domestic abuse. They provide safe, temporary accommodation.
Residents receive practical, emotional and social support from staff and are given time to rebuild confidence, regain control and look to the future.
Ilkley Rotarians and their families have also been providing clothing and domestic items to the refuge.
