ILKLEY firm Spooner Industries has long been a regular supporter of Comic Relief and this year is no exception.
A whole host of activities will be taking place on Red Nose Day tomorrow at the manufacturing and engineering company.
Wear red or full fancy dress will be the order of the day, whilst perhaps the most eagerly anticipated event is the promised appearance of an office team as Baywatch lifeguards. So far no female volunteers have come forward to join in.
The results will also be in on some longer term initiatives. Since January 15 staff keen to lose those extra few pounds gained at Christmas, teamed up and pledged to eat more healthily for this good cause. In total 28 staff have stayed the course, paying £1 a time for a weekly weigh-in with final results and announcement of the ‘biggest loser’ being made today. This will be just in time to take full advantage of the home-made cakes going on sale on Friday alongside a rummage sale of second hand books, DVD’s, CD’s and computer games donated by staff.
For the budding wordsmiths in the company, a caption competition has been running since the visit of Prime Minster and Chancellor to Spooner at the beginning of February. Certainly a day to remember, the images selected for comment include personnel caught perhaps not from their best angle.
The winning entries will be judged by the directors who have also donated a £100 raffle prize. For one lucky winner this will definitely present Friday 13th in a different light for some time to come.
Steve Newell, deputy managing director said: “We are always delighted that staff at Spooner are willing to join in and support charity events – especially with such enthusiasm. Raising money to support such a worthwhile cause is a good fit with the ‘Spooner family’ ethos that still remains within our company today.”
l Schools and businesses across Wharfedale and Aireborough are gearing up to put on their noses, pull out all the stops, and get fundraising, tomorrow.
