I FIND the comments in Stephanie Edwards’ letter quite presumptuous; as I would say that “surely anyone with any common sense” would also consider using the Tesco land to build housing on if the Bradford Council’s Local Plan imposes 800 houses on Ilkley.
As far as I am aware it is the only true brownfield site available in Ilkley, the alternative is to build on green belt, which I suspect (though don’t presume) that a majority of the population of Ben Rhydding and Ilkley do not wish to occur.
Secondly the question of a bypass has been discussed for over 75 years, and again this would have to be built through green belt.
But instead of Stephanie Edwards and I guessing what the people of Ben Rhydding and Ilkley desire, maybe the best way would be for Ilkley Parish Council to organise for a plebiscite to be held.
