HELPERS are being sought to make sure the Chevin Cross overlooks Otley once again this Easter.
Volunteers are needed on Saturday, March 21, to both load sections of the cross onto a lorry and then pull it up into position, on Surprise View. The loading takes place at the old fire station, near Courthouse Street car park, at 9am and will need about 20 fit, strong helpers.
At least 50 people, meanwhile, will be needed to raise the cross – with volunteers being asked to meet at Surprise View by 9.15am.
The Otley Council of Christian Churches arranged for the first Chevin Cross, which was 36ft tall, to be raised in 1968 as an annual symbol of hope at Easter time.
