A COUNCILLOR has voiced his concerns at the potential impact of a waste tip permit system for Leeds residents.
Cllr Paul Wadsworth (Conservative, Guiseley & Rawdon ward) says it could lead to a huge increase in use of the Guiseley waste tip in Dib Lane creating more traffic problems.
He said if non-Leeds residents are prevented from using the Ellar Ghyll site, it will lead to a reduction in waste processed there, which could undermine its long term viability. If Ellar Ghyll was ever closed, Cllr Wadsworth said people could travel to the next nearest tip site in Dib Lane.
He has now asked the council to look at giving non-Leeds residents the option of paying for an annual permit for Ellar Ghyll tip.
Cllr Wadsworth said: “One possible knock-on effect of the permits is that Ellar Ghyll’s future may be in doubt if waste levels fall. People would then naturally need to travel to their next nearest tip, which for many would be in Guiseley.”
