LULU the Dachshund caused quite a stir when she disappeared down a rabbit hole in woodland near Billing View, Rawdon.
Technical Rescue Officer Ian Thompson was called in at around 11.20am last Wednesday and subsequently requested the Technical Rescue Team from Cleckheaton Fire Station.
A snake eye camera was used to locate Lulu before a handful of firefighters worked tirelessly for around three hours to dig the four-year-old dog out.
Owner, Nicola Linfield, who was 49 on the day of the rescue, said she was so grateful for the firefighters’ efforts.
She said: “The firefighters worked so hard. It was pouring down with rain.
“When she came out I cried. It’s the best birthday present I have had.
“I’m so flabbergasted that they have gone to such a length and the work that they put in – the physical hard work – was incredible.”
