ALDI is hoping to build a new supermarket in Yeadon town centre.
The discount chain has applied for planning permission to create the store at Westfield Mills, off Kirk Lane.
The company, which bought the freehold of the site – currently occupied by Homebase – last year, says its proposed 1,823 sq m supermarket would create about 50 jobs. Harrogate-based firm Planning Potential has lodged the proposals with Leeds City Council on Aldi’s behalf, and says a consultation exercise held last November showed there was significant support from local residents and businesses.
In her letter to Leeds City Council, Rachel Ford of Planning Potential added: “The proposal will... deliver significant investment into the local economy and deliver approximately 50 new job opportunities within Yeadon.
“Aldi Stores have confirmed that existing employees at Homebase will be given a job interview for the proposed Aldi store.”
