CHILDREN at Ashlands Primary School in Ilkley enjoyed a visit from author Andrew Newbound last week.
The visit was a prize after Ashlands was highly commended for the number of its children who took part in the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge 2014, organised by Bradford Libraries, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust. More than 26 per cent of children at Ashlands participated, putting it in the top ten in the Bradford district.
The visit was designed to enthuse the children in school about reading and to encourage them to participate in this year’s summer reading challenge, which is themed Guinness World Records. Headteacher Andrew Soutar said: “Amazing content about the number of words in the English language, palindromes and heteronyms! Excellent prize for the uptake in the Summer Reading scheme.”
