SCHOOLCHILDREN in Horsforth, Rawdon and Yeadon have been congratulated by the local MP for getting ‘on their bikes’.
Pupils at Broadgate Primary, Horsforth Newlaithes, Rawdon Littlemoor, Rawdon St Peter’s, West End Primary and Yeadon Westfield are all using bicycles or scooters as part of The Big Pedal.
This year’s Sustrans-run campaign, which started at the beginning of the month and ends tomorrow, aims to get children active by encouraging them to cycle to school.
MP Stuart Andrew (Con, Pudsey) said: “It’s great to see so many pupils in the Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough area taking part in The Big Pedal. I hope that by encouraging our children to cycle and scoot to school during this period we will see a reduction in congestion and pollution around the school gates.”
Programme development officer at Sustrans, Ben Merry, added: “The Big Pedal is fun, inclusive and it helps schools to encourage families to lead active lives. Although the competition runs for three weeks, it has a lasting effect on the way the school community travel to school.”
