THE students and teachers of Ilkley’s Wright Theatre Dance Academy (WTA) spent all last week raising money for Comic Relief by making their faces funny for dancing. On Friday the day of Comic Relief, senior students and teachers danced at the bandstand in Ilkley to boost their fundraising. Although the weather was cold and damp students cheered up lunchtime shoppers with a colourful Bollywood routine and Uptown Funk street jazz, whilst teachers performed a comic rendition of I’m a Woman dressed as 1960s char ladies! School principal Lynne Wright said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped us exceed our target of £500 for Comic Relief. It has been a challenge for the teachers to produce six different funny faces for each of our teaching days this week, but we have had great fun doing it and laughed a lot.
“Our students have been working really hard towards ballet, modern theatre and jazz exams which took place on the two previous weekends, so this was a wonderful opportunity to forget technique and have fun! “Although still awaiting the ballet results we are thrilled with the outstanding Modern exam results; 100 per cent pass rate, 22 distinctions, 20 merits and four passes.
“Sponsorship for Comic relief is still coming in on the WTA Just Giving page, a link for which can be found at wtadanceacademy.com. “To date, including money collected at classes and dancing at the bandstand as well as the sponsorship, WTA have collected £600.”
