ILKLEY and Keighley MP Kris Hopkins has praised local authorities across the country for balancing their budgets and keeping council tax levels low – despite Bradford Council once again rejecting Government assistance to freeze council tax in the next financial year.
Speaking at Communities and Local Government Questions in the House of Commons, Mr Hopkins said: “Since 2010 councils have set balanced budgets and council tax has fallen by 11 per cent in real terms.
“Public satisfaction with local services has been maintained and we have increased transparency so that residents can hold councils to account.”
The Local Government Minister told MPs in the House that the National Audit Office and the Public Accounts Committee had highlighted that all councils had managed to balance their budgets, “and we should note that the ten per cent most deprived councils in the country receive 40 per cent more than the most wealthy councils.”
