Burley Trojans U-12 Girls 1 Dewsbury Girls 0
After the recent dramatic changes in the weather it was good to get a game under way but with Chloe Smithringale ill the girls knew it would be a hard game against Dewsbury as there is never anything between the two teams.
As Burley kicked-off following their now customary team huddle it became apparent that they would have to be at their best to continue their winning streak.
The girls got the ball onto the floor and passed it well with Vicky Scott in fine form in the middle of the park, Amy Creedon and Ami Woods made up the midfield to add confusion to the managers headache.
Up front Becky Gill worked hard as usual and covered all areas of the pitch. Vicky Scott sent Creedon free down the wing and she crossed for Gill to shoot first time only for the keeper to make a fine save.
This set the pattern of the game with Woods, Vicky Scott and Gill all going close with shots that the goalkeeper did well to save.
At the other end Chloe Dinsdale remained untroubled and gives the defence an air of confidence, with Katie Scott again excelling showing what a good footballer she is, winning the tackles, dribbling past bigger players and setting up counter attack after counter attack.
Her recent displays have been immense for the team. Alongside her in defence was Natasha Moorey who never shirks a tackle and continues to produce some outstanding displays enabling Burley to keep a clean sheet once again.
Burley were making all of the running and as a team the girls work so hard for each other, leading from the front was Becky Gill who made tackles in defence then sprinted to get up front.
It was a superb move that involved Ami Woods who passed the ball to Amy who in turn fed Vicky, then it went to Becky who played a one-two with Vicky before crashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to cap a superb team move. One which epitomises the spirit of the team.
As the half wore on more chances went a begging first a break from Gill and Creedon fed Woods in the middle who chose to pass and not shoot when a goal would have resulted.
Vicky Scott went close with a dipping curling free-kick that was scrambled away and the half ended at 1-0.
At the start of the second-half Gill took a deserved rest and Katie Hudson made her seasonal debut and with her first touch nearly made it 2-0 only for the ball to scrape past the post.
The girls continued to push forward and their enterprising passing should have resulted in more goals but due to a combination of good keeping and the heavy pitch which made shooting difficult kept the score at 1-0.
As the girls tired Katie and Natasha found themselves with more tackles to make and Chloe more saves to make. Vicky dropped deeper and it seemed as if they would concede an equaliser but the resolve and team spirit is such that they fought hard and gained a deserved win.
Remaining unbeaten in the league in 2007 each one of the girls deserve special credit for the way in which they work so hard for each other
