MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West):
2015 has certainly been an eventful year, and a particularly busy one for me with it being the General Election in May. I was very pleased to be re-elected by local people and be able to continue to represent the area.
The inaugural Tour de Yorkshire in May was a huge success and I was delighted when it was announced that the 2016 event will again go through Arthington and Pool, and see day 2 in the men's race and the inaugural women's race start in Otley.
This followed Otley cycling hero Lizzie Armitstead becoming World Champion and we hope Lizzie will take part in the TdY starting in her home town. In October Leeds Rhinos won a remarkable treble and, despite disappointment in the Rugby Union World Cup, England Rugby League restored some pride by beating New Zealand!
Before the election I was delighted to secure two key changes in law to help protect pubs, including 'Mulholland's Law' to stop exploitation by the large pub companies, and I was delighted when local brewer Paul Briscoe brewed a beer in my honour.
I’ve continued to campaign for better justice for victims of criminal driving and their families, following the deaths of Jamie Still and David and Dorothy Metcalfe and in March publicised a manifesto for change with Brake, the road safety charity. I've also been continuing to campaign for the wards at Wharfedale Hospital to be used again, alongside the Support Wharfedale Hospital campaign, and we hope this will happen in 2016.
Wading though Otley streets in November was a new experience but I was pleased to be able to assist residents affected by the floods.
My highlight of the year was the news that, after a 13-month campaign, seven year-old Sam Brown and others with Morquio Disease will get the drug he needs to treat his ultra-rare condition on the NHS - the perfect Christmas gift for Sam and his parents.
I am sure 2016 will be another very busy year and I will carry on standing up for our area and residents, but for now I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
