SCHOOLCHILDREN from Bramhope will be taking on a tough challenge this weekend - by giving up their 'tech time'.
Bramhope Primary School is encouraging pupils and their families to either give up their screen-time on electronic devices altogether on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3, or to cut back on it to an agreed limit.
The initiative is designed to tie in with the school's upcoming Internet Safety Day (on Tuesday, February 5) and will also raise money for school books.
Teacher Charlotte Hahnel said: "For Internet Safety Day we will be sharing the usual key messages around online safety within school.
"However this year we are also majoring on mindfulness. The children - and their parents - have been set the challenge of a Device Free Weekend.
"The idea is that we can encourage children to be out and about and reduce screen time.
"They will be raising money for school books through sponsorship and we are hoping to award a prize in the form of a local trip out."
