Leeds Trinity University has hosted its first virtual book launch and has welcomed poets, creative writers and scholars from overseas to the event.

The university held the launch of An Insubstantial Universe; an anthology of original poetry in celebration of the 2019 bicentenary of the birth of English novelist George Eliot. Social distancing guidelines meant the original launch event had to be postponed.

The anthology was co-edited by senior lecturer Dr Amina Alyal and PhD student Edwin Stockdale. The collection was written by poets connected to the university, in the UK and overseas, and is sponsored by the Leeds Centre for Victorian Studies. It is available for £11.50 from Yaffle Press.

Dr Alyal said: “The anthology has come out of the strengths of individuals connected with Leeds Trinity and the multiple talents of people who weren’t previously connected, but who we hope will form part of our future adventures.”
