CAMPAIGNERS are welcoming a decision to extend a public consultation on the operating permit for a proposed incinerator at Keighley.

The Chair of Aire Valley Against Incineration Simon Shimbles said “We are pleased that the Environment Agency has extended the consultation period by two weeks to August 12, thanks to a request from AVAI and MP Robbie Moore. There have been over seven hundred submissions so far. “

Ben Rhydding ward councillor Ros Brown has also welcomed the extension in light of the Committee on Climate Change Progress Report to Parliament on Reducing UK Emissions.

“This report states we need to act now to prevent the lock-in of fossil emissions from waste incineration. I urge residents to take this opportunity to speak up for the climate and thank those who have already done so,” she said.

The incinerator would be four miles from Ilkley Moor.
