PEOPLE who care about Ilkley are being urged to take part in this month’s Great British September Clean.

The event is backed by the charity Keep Britain Tidy and replaces the Great British Spring Clean which was postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Running from September 11 to September 27 the clean will involve support from volunteers, local authorities, charities and businesses.

Local efforts are supported by the People Can campaign which encourages and co-ordinates enthusiastic people and organisations who volunteer to make improvements to their surroundings and communities.

There are two ways to get involved with the Great British September Clean.

1. Organise a private clean-up with up to five other family and friends.

2. Pledge to do your own individual clean-up, you can give as little as 15 minutes to the campaign.

To take part you need in the first instance to contact your local Bradford Council Neighbourhood Office. Council officers will ensure that any local clean-ups comply with social distancing measures to keep people safe from infection. They will also provide support and equipment.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “This is a great campaign to bring people together to make a real difference to their neighbourhoods. We are proud of our community spirit in Bradford and we know there are many people out there who are only too willing to muck in and help to improve their surroundings.”
